Kedah is known as the rice bowl of Malaysia because it has the most padi fields and produces the most padi to feed our nation- Malaysia. Some of the fields are still using the old ways - human labour and most of them are now using mechanical harvesters but the planting is still the tedious human labour. The old "kampong" ways are still adopted, where the villagers share the work force as you help me and I help you but it's a dying tradition as the younger ones are moving out to the cities for better jobs, it's the old men and women keeping up the tradition and I wonder how long this will last. we need to find a new way to plant padi or else there will be a shortage of manpower in the field.
